Paper Piecing with Corrosive

Our challenge over at the Corrosive Challenges blog is to include some paper piecing on your project this week. I love paper piecing - whether it be with stamps or using a pattern - it must go back to the days I spent working on puzzles as a kid! Here's my card for the week:

The image is from Impression Obsession and all paper is from PaperTrey Ink. Here are some Big Ideas I incorporated:

* When I paper piece, I usually look for areas of an image that are larger empty spaces. Those are easiest to work with. But you can paper piece with smaller detailed areas as well. The paper piecing on this card basically shows three different ways:
     1. The carrot portion of the image did not have an outline to work with - just a random assortment of eggs that make up the image. I stamped the image onto a pale peachy patterned paper and then simply followed the outside edge of the eggs to hand cut my carrot shape.
     2. The top portion of the carrot - the greens - were stamped and then trimmed much closer to the image itself than the whole carrot body was, going around individual leaves without being absolutely precise and leaving some excess border area.
     3. The tulips were stamped and each were cut out precisely on the lines and then were added onto the finished image. To see everything a little better, click the picture for a bigger photo.

I also went back in with a couple of Copic markers and added some additional color on the image to provide a little more definition.

The background of the card is created from the same papers that the image was paper pieced from and the edges were punched and ribbon was threaded through. A few small pearls finish this spring pastel greeting.

If you would like to try a little paper piecing this week, I hope you'll join us. Create your card and post to your blog or other online gallery and then link up over at the Corrosive Challenge blog. And be sure to stop by and see what the other members of the team have created - such a talented group!!!

And when you have some free time, be sure to check out my latest ramblings over at Ridiculous Lab.

Have a wonderful Sunday!

Paper Piecing and I have a love/hate relationship. :) I am not so good with cutting! Typically I amputate something important! This is a darling card and I love the use of the flowers for the stem!
